How to be an English Language Teacher

The most important reason for a person why one should have good communicative skills in English is for the person to be able to understand and be understood effectively. For non-native English learners, they study English not because they just want to achieve a refined pronunciation but to understand English texts accurately and respond accordingly.Thus, it is necessary for English Language teachers, to help students get better at speaking and using the language. While teaching grammar,pronunciation and other aspects of English, an English Language teacher must make sure that the students get to be trained how to think logically and perform a lot of critical thinking activities.

Language training without sharpening students geniuses and without arousing students critical thinking is plain and dull. So as to say, English language teacher's should think of activities that makes students use their HOTS. Higher order thinking skills. This post would be about thpse activties or strategies that I've found effective or helpful in helping students use a lot of their Hots. This thread will serve as my ESL Teacher's personal compilation of the new and effective strategies that I've learned over time.

Sunday Seminar for English Language Teacher

An English language teacher should:
1. make students produce outputs which requires reading/writing and speaking/listening
2. communicate new ideas
3. actively create

Strategies/Activities

1.Changing Partners- Energizer ( Good practice for speaking)
This activity will require students to face a partner to talk about something that the teacher will write on the board. The teacher will instruct students that she will write something on the board and the students will talk about it with a partner. They will be told that after all the questions, some pairs will be called in front to share to the class what they have talked about.
Teacher writes " Tell your partner about the food that you ate last night" then students will talk about the topic with their partner. After a few minutes the teacher will then add another topic and will tell students "Next, for number two, 2.Tell your partner about what you are wearing today." and students would do so. The teacher can do four questions or 5. After all the questions, some pair of students will share in front what they have talked about with their partner.
